A cop, a racist, and a murderer walk into a bar.
The bartender asks, “what’ll ya have, Officer Wilson?”
You might be tired of hearing about Ferguson, but I’m sure our brothers and sisters of color are really fucking tired of being shot by cops.
Anonymous asked: what should i be taking away from everything happening in ferguson? cuz i honestly dont know what to make of it. youre my primary news source on the matter tbh. i just feel im not grasping how important it is.
What you should be taking away from Ferguson is this:
A white police officer murdered a black youth and instead of taking him to trial for his crime the Ferguson police have created this entire situation. The protesters did not do this. The police have done this, all because they don’t want to take one racist to trial.
And they are getting away with it. They are getting away with it because the government itself allows and abets them in this. They are getting away with it as white police officers all over the nation are and have been getting away with it because this is NOT an isolated incident. The only thing that sets Ferguson apart is how much attention it is getting.
Ferguson should be a wake up call to you. Many of us know that the state of things in America, especially where race dynamics are concerned, is fucked up, but how do we change that? Do we drop everything in our lives and go join the black panthers? How does one “fight the power”? Well right here is one small way to start doing your part. Don’t let this attention die out. Educate yourself about Ferguson and related events (I wish I could give you a bunch of useful links here but sadly I don’t have any as I am still educating myself). Reblog and share stories about Ferguson on social media, people (mostly white and older ones) lampoon social media as not being an effective form of resistance but the fact that you are here asking me this question right now proves that it is not. Talk to people about Ferguson. Correct misinformation. Do not let people forget this, as we have all collectively forgotten all the black people who have been gunned down by police before. For change to happen on a large scale it also needs to happen on a small scale, we all have to do our part even if it’s only helping to keep a story alive.
Anonymous asked: A big part of what made the accurate Ferguson coverage possible was the live streaming. Could you remind people how impossible that would have been without net neutrality?
